Do you like Veggies?

You'll never guess what I discovered this week end... I was stunned by this news and I can hardly think normally now. Not really a different from before. I was surfing on the web, if not as usual, and on I found a link on something called Marmite, which comes from the same word in french meaning an earthenware cooking container (thanks Oxford Dictionary). But I can't remember the website that talks about it, damn it!

Anyway, you will see what I discovered and maybe you'll have the same reaction. Look at the video, that's hilarious. As you notice, Marmite is a clone of the aussie Vegemite, that means that disgusting yeast extract... (I'm sure Matty will buy some Marmite to compare the two ^^). Here comes a second ad. And normally now, you ask me why I am so stunned about an english vegemite product. Simply because I was convinced that Vegemite was something exclusive from Australia! But they took that from their native England! That's outrageous! Isn't it? Ok it's not. But now I need to find something excepting animals which can be found only in Australia... Let's look over there...

Play Mobile ™

PEBL U6

As most of you know, I never had a mobile in France. I mean the first mobile I got, I got it in Australia. The fact is that I never felt like needing one. In Australia, I used it during my trips, not to rely on phone machines. When I came to Toulouse, I had no address (no flat), no contact numbers, just a face and a name. My father gave me a mobile before leaving Nantes (the city I've lived in since I'm 3) to be able to be called by a Very Important Person (Understand: the owner of my flat and my family).

But now that I work in the mobile technology, I really want to buy a new one, as the one I got is huge, ugly and old... Not to make any ad, I'm really interested by this one and that one.

The fact is that we didn't really need mobile phones. Before they came, nobody except professionnals needed them. That's why I haven't bought one before january. Technology creates needs. You buy something new, you try it, then you "simplify" the way you're living by using this device. Doing so you become dependent on it. What will you do today without a mobile? a mp3 player ? an Internet access?

Because we launch products without knowing exactly how people will use it (at the very beginning, mobile phones were never meant to be of use to the general public), the world is becoming uncontrollable. Who knows how we will live in 2 years? The fact is that some years ago, we were able to predict without making huge mistakes how life would be... let's say, in 5 or 10 years. Today it's definitely impossible.

Anyway, I'm pleased to live in this uncontrollable world. Before leaving you, just a quick picture of Toulouse. I will add some on Flick'r and build a link to them on this blog.

Blue-Polluted Sky

The first thing that stunned me when I came back in France was the dirtiness. France is dirty, compared to Australia. I had the same feeling when I came back from Germany. In France, you always have some cigarets, old bubble-gums, dog poo and something else poo, on the pavement... I've never realised this before because I used to live in that crap. You don't really know your country, I mean what makes your country different, before traveling.

I'm a bit ashamed of course. But less than if my country was the second poluter of this planet. Behind the US (25% of the CO² emitted), Australia with only 20 million inhabitants, is the second most pollutant country. So please, don't fart outside your room! Seriously, Earth's future has to become our priority and not only a one-minute thought every year... To avoid emitting to much gas, France chose nuclear plants, which bring other problems...

The second thing was the sky. Surprisingly, the aussie sky is deeply blue fading light blue near the skyline. Here the sky is desperately light blue / white. I think I know why, but it may be related to the previous paragraph topic.

But don't worry, I love Australia and will return there as soon as possible. And next time, I swear, you'll see Toulouse...
